This post is part of the ’7 things to do in Istanbul’ series. You can read the other 6 entries by clicking on the links below:
1. Enjoy a ginormous snack, 3. Visit the Pera Museum, 4. Explore the Grand Bazaar, 5. Spend time people watching, 6. Make a wish, 7. Head to the Islands
2) Linger by a spectacular night view
The most beautiful spot in Istanbul for me is a spot by the Bosphorus, with the Ortakoy Mosque to one side and the imposing Bosphorus Bridge to the other. This is the spot which graces an endless number of Istanbul advertisements, and for a good reason – wandering around this area on a warm sunny summer’s day is simply beautiful, and when the sun starts to set, it turns into magical.
The area fills up with life, as locals and tourists alike sit and chat by the sea. The melodic call to prayer drifts through the air from the Ortakoy Mosque, and then, when the sun has disappeared behind the horizon, the Bosphorus bridge lights up and changes colour every few minutes.
Since you cannot cross the Bosphorus bridge on foot, you might as well simply gaze at its imposing bulk from the seaside. Do so, and you will rewarded with a view like the one below….
…only a thousand times better, because added to the visual experience you will also be able to feel the coolness of the breeze, the cheerfulness of the people, and the salty taste of the sea.

I hope to go to Istanbul one day. Meanwhile, I enjoy looking at you photos
Hi Denise,
Nice post and great photos! I particularly like the night shot of the Bosphorus bridge. Makes me miss Istanbul and Turkey…

Hi Jason,
Thanks for taking the time to comment. The shot was taken with a normal compact camera, so the quality is not great, but I love the moment it captures!
Denise,
BTW your site format looks different and I really like it. It makes the photos pop.
Jason
Yes, I changed it at the beginning of this year and love what it does for the photos too! It’s the classic black background which creates this great effect I suppose.
