I am delighted to have won round 34 of Travel Photo Roulette, hosted at My Walkabout. The winning shot for the theme ‘Winter’ is one which has always been close to my heart. It was taken during my very first Winter in Switzerland where I have been living for a little over two years now, and which I’ll be leaving in 2 weeks.
This week’s theme is…Blue…my favourite colour to photograph! While we’re all instantly reminded of sea and sky, I hope that submissions will also feature a range of other blue photo subjects. Get creative!
The competition is on from Jan 22 until Jan 29 (Sunday to Sunday), and the winner will be announced shortly after.
The rules are simple. The hosting blogger is the chosen winner of the previous round. The new host chooses a generic keyword or phrase that other travelers submit photos to during the course of the week. Phrases can be as generic as ‘signs’ all the way to abstract thoughts like ‘religion’ and everything in between. At the end of the week, the hosting blogger chooses their favourite photo that fits the chosen phrase and moves it to the top of the post as the winning entry with direction to the new host’s site for the next round. Readers can attempt to sway the author into picking a certain photo via comments, but the author can ignore comments as they see fit. The game is repeated with the winner hosting the following week’s game and choosing a phrase for new photo submissions.
To enter in the Photo Roulette competition simply leave a comment below with a link to the image (whether Flickr, Picasa or your own site) and we will upload it to this post. Don’t forget to provide a brief description or caption for the photo so the viewers can get a little background as to what’s happening. Check back here throughout the week to see all the entries as they come in and feel free to comment on them. The contest runs for 7 days from today, with the submission date being Jan 22th , 2012 – Jan 29th , 2012 (Sunday thru Sunday). The winner will be announced within the next few days after the deadline, and they will host round 36.
**Note** Medium size pictures are preferred (around 600 px). Large pictures might slow down downloading time for everybody.
The following is a list of the previously played rounds of the game and the hosting blogger for each. This list also doubles as a winner’s table as each topic host won the preceding round! From Raymond @ Man on the Lam: ‘Ladyboys singing the blues at Starz Cabaret in Koh Samui, Thailand.’

From Sebastian @ Off the Path: ‘I shot this photo right after sunset from the Istanbul Sapphire Tower early November 2011. ‘
From Michael @ Strux Travel: ‘This is the Christ the Redeemer (Cristo Redentor) statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.’
By Jeremy @ Living the Dream: ‘The color blue is one of my favorites, and I cannot think of anything more blue than Reed Flute Cave in Guilin, China. This part of the cave is lit up with blue everywhere!‘
From Adam @ Travels of Adam: ‘The blue medina of Chefchaouen, Morocco’
(Right) From Jamie @ Breakaway Backpacker: ‘I shot this photo in the blue town of Chefchaouen, Morocco. I love that the whole town is blue and you also see the people living there wearing blue. This lil old lady was walking by me down a lil alley in the town.’
(Left) From Liz @ Two weeks to Travel: ‘ Perfect skies Aspen, Colorado.’
From Nick @ Adventure Crow: ‘Caught in a school of fish diving off Koh Tao, Thailand’
From Nico @ 10 times one: ‘Nothing bluer than the facades of the buildings in “the Blue City”, Jodhpur, India. Have a number of very blue shots from there, but this one to me was so personal.’
From Dave @ Been there, dunn that: ‘Here’s my ‘blue’ entry, a photo of ‘Wally’ & I, at the Great Barrier Reef’
From Natasha @ Wandering Kiwi: ‘A detail of the myriad blues of the majolica tiles that decorate the Islamic architecture of the legendary Samarkand in Uzbekistan. From turquoise to lapis and everything in between. Simply breathtaking.’
(Left) From Fidel @ Scene with a Hart: ‘Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur lit at night. I changed the white balance while taking the picture to get the blue effect of the lights.’
(Right) From Heather @ Traveller’s Playground: ‘ I have my favorite standby image that I usually use for a blue theme, my favorite studio door from the alley ways of Italy. However I not long ago used that image for a #FriFoto on Twitter (See Image Here). I have plenty of ocean images and sky images, but The Art of Slow Travel who is hosting this weeks game is looking for a bit more variety.
That’s when this picture came to mind. Not long ago I was doing a photo shoot for my friend’s two youngest sons when one of her older son’s happened to join us, how fitting for the word blue!’
From Jenna @ This is my happiness: ‘Here’s my submission. It’s a view of the waters off Pacific Grove, California.’
From Kristina @ Le Fabuleux destin: ‘Le bleu majorelle – the most amazing color ever seen in the beautiful Majorelle Gardens in Marrakech’

From Kevin @ The Mad Traveler: ‘Blue! Great color and theme. Tough choice, but I’m going with Cuban street musicians’
From Kjersti @ Backpackified: ‘I love the color blue. Also, I fell in love with Thailand the minute I arrived, it has so many quirks! The stands along the road with gasoline in what looks like booze bottles from a Wild West movie is just one of the things I find funny here. Hope you like it!’
From Shaheena @ Circa 1982: ‘Sultanhamet – The Blue Mosque Istanbul,Turkey’
From Jade @ Our Oyster: ‘Here is our entry! It’s a photo I took on beautiful Stradbrooke Island near Brisbane Australia. This was also the day James and I got horrifically sunburnt!’
From Cole @ Four Jandals: ‘When we were driving across Canada and USA on our epic 18,000 km road trip we stopped off at some little waterfall and jumped on the Maid of the Mist tour! So much fun and got absolutely drenched. All that water was actually coming off Niagara Falls and it isn’t rain! So glad we had our BLUE ridiculous looking ponchos.’
Sam @ Food Travel Bliss: ‘This photo was taken when we were hiking up Mt Etna in Sicily. The landscape of the volcano is very bland and colourless for miles, which made me think this little fellow was attracted to the blue of my anklet. He stayed there for ages as we trekked up the mountain in the heat.’
